Aftercare

Day Of

Pamper yourself! Eat a carb-heavy, hearty meal after your tattoo (trust me, you will feel so much better)! Rest as much as you can today. Your body releases adrenaline when being tattooed and your nervous system needs nurturing to level out again.

Important Things!

Always wash your hands before touching or caring for your tattoo!

Do not submerge your tattoo in water for two weeks. Avoid excessive sweating. Keep your tattoo covered from the sun and use spf.

To keep your tattoo looking good for years to come, make sure to wear sunscreen or cover up when exposed to the sun!

Next Couple of Days

In the first 24 hours, there may be a build up of plasma under the SecondSkin. This is completely normal. If so, remove the bandage and reapply a new clean one.

  • Not applying new SecondSkin? follow care steps below after removing!

NOTE: You may experience some redness around the tattoo where SecondSkin was applied to the un-tattooed skin. This is also completely normal and may occur with any type of medical adhesive. If you do develop an adverse reaction on the tattoo, discontinue use immediately.

  • Peel up an edge or corner of SecondSkin. If this proves difficult, you can attach medical tape to the corner of the film to help lift it.

  • Slowly pull the film off. Do not pull it straight up away from the skin. Instead, pull the film back and across the skin while holding your skin taut. *Think of pulling off a command strip!

  • Wash your tattoo gently with an unscented, gentle soap. I recommend Dial’s unscented antibacterial! Flaking skin is normal, don’t be alarmed.

  • Let air dry or use a clean paper towel. Do not use bath towels! These harbor bacteria and can introduce them to your open skin.

  • If applying new SecondSkin bandage, do this now. Go back to top of instructions and follow again.

  • Not applying new bandage, follow steps below!

Day Three/Removing Second Skin

Until Week Two Post Tattoo

Twice a day: Use a mild & unscented soap & gently cleanse your tattoo, thoroughly rinse, and let air dry or use a clean paper towel.

*Avoid bath towels as they harbor bacteria!

If you find your tattoo itching or looking dry, apply a thin layer of a mild, unscented lotion. I recommend Lubriderm or Cetaphil. Rub the lotion in fully, we don’t want product sitting on the surface of your tattoo collecting bacteria.

Daily: Gaze upon your glorious tattoo and remind yourself of what a a badass you are.

Don’t forget, Mama Vee is so proud of you!
